Estimated read time 4 min read

Bill gates had a partner, so did other hugely successful people who became what they are today. In life we sometimes need that one person that we know we can depend on and share success with. When building a business or success venture you may need help here and there hence the need to find the right partner who has the right qualities. In this article we are identifying 5 qualities that we think are essential if you are going to succeed in any relationship for success. Some of these qualities can filter to social relationships.

1. Let’s do this money later partner

In starting a business one of the most difficult things is to start when there is no huge capital. It means that you will probably not have money to pay people for the work they do or the input they give so you have to start alone. The only type of person that you can start with is someone who also believes in the vision and understands that the money will come later. These type of people are hard to come by as in mot cases people will demand cash up front. If you are looking for a real business partner, then get the “Let’s do this, money later partner”, someone who is convinced that there is life in the idea. Never get into a partnership with someone who demands cash immediately, no matter how much connections or knowledge they have they will drag you down, it is better you hire a consultant instead of having that person as a business partner.

2. Speed Dial communicator

The success of any business hinges on the ability to do things at the right time. In order to be able to do certain things information is critical in how it is communicated. A good quality to have in a business partner is someone who is available when you need to make the crucial big and small decisions. A partner who is not able to communicate in time will cost you many opportunities such that you will end up hung and dry. Find the speed dial communicator, they will never leave you and you can DEPEND on them when you need them within reason and out of reason.

3. The motivator

One of the best qualities is the motivator, a partner who when the chips are down still sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopes for all things to work out, is still a realist but will find ways to make it work because they believe. The last thing you need is to be fighting on two fronts, on one front you have the world to fight and on the other hand someone inside your own camp. A good motivator understands what time it is and looks for the best.

4. The grounded realist

It is good to dream but dreams must become reality and the way reality works when compared to dreams is a bit different. A good partner does not live in dreamland they understand that there is such a thing as costs, disappointments, betrayal, risk and being careful. They tell you the truth not to discourage you but to give you ample wisdom on what to look out for. The grounded realist is not looking for your downfall but rather is there to keep you from over flying in your dreams and losing the plot.

5. Sacrifice

No dream can come true without a sacrifice; every vision needs time and work. Nothing great is built without sacrifice from the visionary or builder. A good partner understands this and when needed will always find the time to give it their best shot in trying to make things happen. Partners that are true will always try their best to be there and give of their time, advice and sometimes their resources.

When you find a partner with these qualities keep them close and reward them when you can, after all they are the rock by which Rome is built.
