There is no time like now because now is forever a constant. If you were writing an equation about time and perhaps looking at the future or past, or today, now will be that constant that will always be there. A leader can only be great once they understand the power of now, and not tomorrow or yesterday. There are 5 reasons why one can become as great as such leaders as Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Mother Theresa and all other great leaders that one can think of. Being able to use “NOW” can be the difference between success and mediocrity.
1. Now sets up the foundation of the next now
Tomorrow is another now waiting to happen and its substance is grounded on the present now. If you want the now of tomorrow to be full of a tremendous harvest then the now of today must invest into that harvest of tomorrow. You cannot lead if you do not have a clear vision of what tomorrow’s now will be. If today you are doing nothing then tomorrow you will have nothing to be your reality. There is no harvest until the now of today expresses the harvest of tomorrow.
2. Do it now is a motion because the world is in motion
Nothing is truly ever settled and science has proved that there is always constant motion in the universe. Even when you are still, silent or asleep there is activity happening within yourself. Activity leads to more activity, hence when you desire success the quality of the motion happening at that moment will determine the quality of the success that you will get. As a leader you must understand that the trajectory of your future is only as set as the trajectory of the now moment. In other words the future can only be pushed as hard as the now of the present can push it.
3. Do it now or else someone else will
While you wait on getting the energy to do it now, someone else can be doing it then. Leadership like in marketing, can be about who is first in the market, not necessarily how well you do it, but by how you are perceived as a leader. Sometimes it is not about making the best impression but about making an impression. The battle can be won by the person who shows up first to gain the best ground not necessarily the army with the best fighter. Some leaders become leaders not because they had the best political message or the best policy of plans, they become leaders because they were the first to show up to claim the leadership position.
4. Success is a location in the now
When people are looking at success they set up boundaries of what they think is success, and one of those boundaries is time bounded. It will not be about “has-beens” or “will-bes” but it will be about who is successful now. Your success can be measured by what it is that is running right now which is a testament of your success. Old glories are good memories but present glory is like a dress or suit you wear at that moment. You might have worn the best suit in years gone by but if you are dressed inappropriately at that moment in the now, your leadership qualities will be questioned. Focus all your strength on the now, do not worry about tomorrow but worry about the substance of the today.
5. You breathe now, not tomorrow
Do you wait to breathe tomorrow or do you breathe now so that tomorrow you can have an opportunity to breathe more. This is the other reason why success is found in the now. Life is not created tomorrow it is created now and becomes the breath of tomorrow. Nature teaches us many lessons about time, the way we are designed, the way we evolve in our thinking, the way we dream about things, it is all based on that constant called now.
