Estimated read time 3 min read

Now that everyone who is a movie fan has seen the movie Black Panther, it is time to look at the biggest lessons learned from the movie.

1. Don’t Freeze

T’Challa/Black Panther in the opening scenes gets to show case his skills whilst saving some people. The lesson here is “Don’t freeze” in the face of doing what needs to be done, there will always be emotional issues or other personal issues that one needs to take care of. The lesson here is do what needs to be done and handle the emotions later on. If  as a leader you are side tracked by all the emotions that exist you might never achieve what needs to be done.

2. Recognize Talent

Shuri is 16 years old but leads the technology section of Wakanda. How many nations would give responsibility to a 16 year old as the head of technology? We learn that sometimes leadership needs to recognize capability and ability and reward with responsibility where it matters.

3. Doubters can become believers and Allies

In Black Panther one of the proudest is  M’Baku who never really takes to T’Challa but eventually comes to his aid when he needs him the most. T’Challa owed his survival to M’Baku who proves to be a hero in his own right. We learn that when you are true to yourself and consistent, even your greatest doubters will respect you over time. Stay focused and consistent.

4. Have the right people with you

One of T’Challa’s protectors is Okoye who is very jealous of the king to be the king. Though she is sworn to protect the throne when it is taken over she still remains loyal as proved in the battle later on. No matter who you are or how good you think you are, having the right people around you is important. Your generals are just as important as your vision or objectives.’

5. Development must be shared

It is not about colonizing other countries as Killmonger would have us believe but it is about sharing as Nakia rightly educates T’Challa. We all develop at different rates but a good leader knows when to share development for the betterment of people. Wakanda is by far the most advanced nation and for so long they have lived to themselves, however the world needs Wakanda, its medicine and technology. It takes greatness to understand the responsibility that comes with great power, and Black Panther teaches us this.
