5 Enemies of Success that you think are your friends

Estimated read time 5 min read

Success has a price and sometimes the price we may not want to pay for it. Who is your enemy when it comes to success can sound like an easy question to answer. For example, its easy to identify the people who do not like us, the people who sabotage us, however rarely do we notice the people around us as enemies of success as much as they are close to us. In what way can the closest people be your enemy to success? This is the question we want to answer today.

1. The Procrastinators

These are people you enter in business with or some form of contract for which you need their participation in order to get things done. It might be that you need their signatures, or you need their submissions but in the end nothing gets done unless they have been part of it. At the beginning when you are discussing your ideas they seem like they are “in it to win it.” They talk big and talk nice, but when it now comes to doing their part, their level of urgency is on another slow time scale. That one hour that is needed to do certain things becomes one week. In the end you lose the time that you could have otherwise gained competitive advantage or could have been learning from your mistakes to perfect your trade. Procrastinators are the enemy to your success, even if they are your friends. They will slow you down so much that you never get a chance to do things when the window of opportunity is open.

2. Sleepers

When there is a problem, these people sleep in the boat whilst you need their help. For them everything is okay and they believe it will be okay. They might tell you that they have a lot of faith but never realize that faith without works is dead. So when you are supposed to be doing something they are sleeping. These type of people are naturally lazy, they believe in magic and are too much into themselves to ever notice the input that they need to give. When there is trouble in their personal life they will find a way or a solution, but if the trouble affects you they will move aside and let you deal with it because they know that you will do something. Sleepers are generally selfish and lazy, watch out for these.

3. Non-Believers

These are people that listen to you but do not really believe in what you are trying to achieve. They will hear you but they will do what someone else tells them to. They act like you are together when you are discussing but as soon as you are gone they will do what others says is right. In their eyes you are just there and not really as important as they like to make you think. These type of people will waste your time because you will spend time doing so much for them but in the end they will do what they truly believe which is not your vision together. Together you might decide to launch a product and contribute a specific amount, but the real decision on their contribution will be made by someone else and not them. You spend time waiting for their contribution but it never comes because when you made the decision they never trusted your opinion. Your success is delayed at the least and at the most it is killed off.

4. Spenders

Going for success takes a lot of sacrifice and requires sometimes that you watch every dollar that you have on how you spend it. The last thing you need is a person who does not understand what you are trying to achieve. A person who acknowledges what you are trying to achieve says they believe in you but are the first people to make you spend beyond what you are trying to achieve is dangerous for your success. Spenders act like they are with you but they slowly eat your reserves. They are like the Trojan horse, good to look at and be with but deadly when they are in side your circles.

5. Vampires

Sometimes you get in partnership with a person that says they will deliver and pay their part yet in real essence they are sucking all your energy. They don’t take your money or resources, but they take away something more important, your inner energy. You will not only be carrying yourself but also carrying them in the vision. They are that type of person that says they need assistance but are slowly eating away on you. Not only do you have to believe for yourself on the success vision but you have to believe for two or more people. You don’t need such people, you need real people around you. It is  better for you to have declared enemies than vampires that pretend to be your friend.
