Estimated read time 3 min read

How do you handle a broken heart? This is a common question that most of us face, have faced or will face in our relationships. It is not always an easy experience but with the right determination one can be out of it in no time at all.

1. It’s Your heart so do something about it

If there is one thing that you must realize it is that when your heart is broken, it’s your heart and your life. The person who would have broken your heart might just be getting on with their life while you are crying your eyes out. What do you do?
• Don’t deny that you are heart broken
• But don’t make yourself into a basket case
• Cry but don’t stop living
• Decide to be happy
• Find something new to do
When the heart is broken mend it by getting a new lease of life, remember before your heart break you already had a life. So spoil yourself a little. Something new to do could include
• Catching a movie
• Traveling a little
• Spend time with your friends
• Eat at your favorite restaurant
Most important of all start recognizing that you deserve a smile

2. Cry a little and be over the crying

There is no need to pretend that you are not hurt. Set a time for yourself to cry, and cry. Let it out, you have to because if don’t cry it will always be at the back of your mind. So let it out and decide that it is enough. It is when you don’t cry that you are affected the most, pretending to be strong. Being macho about it or being tough about it is not the answer. A great time to cry is
• At night in your bed
• With your close friend but only with that one friend that you trust
• Somewhere secluded
The great thing about crying is that after you are done you will feel like a heavy burden has been lifted off you. It is also important to decide to stop crying after all remember it is your heart, it deserves to be happy too.

3. Change a few things until you are stronger

Find the things that you don’t like which are associated with that person and stop doing them for a while until you feel better and the crying is done. That whole thing of pretending that you are strong and therefore meeting the person who would have broken your heart will not affect you, is a lie. In the first days before you are stronger, in that early period, it is not a good time to be meeting the person or talking to the person. Live your life, stop going to the places that you know you could meet the person. It might be a church, a restaurant, a movie house, whatever it is, change a little.
