Serena Williams is one of the greatest templates for success

Estimated read time 3 min read

Serena has just won the Wimbledon to make them 7 titles and 22 Grand Slam titles,at the age of 34 and still competing with anyone you think is good, and her championships have a range of 17 years. She has been on top since February 2013, every record you can think of Serena is either close to tying it, has tied it, or has set new records.

To be considered a template for greatness means that people can look up to you and learn from you and here are a few reasons why Serena is a template for greatness.

Mind over Body

Serena is 34 years, an age when most athletes are retiring or have retired, if it was soccer she could no longer be the first pick but be a super sub, whilst no longer being expected to play an entire game or being in a top tier team. However this is Serena Williams playing in the Wimbledon final and winning it to tie Steffi Graf grand slam achievements. When everyone else would have given up at the age of 30 Serena is still playing and still wining.

Long Focus Range

Never mind that she can focus in a match , but the fact the her championships are within a 17 year range means that the has been on the circuit for a long time but has been managing to win tournaments that matter in a span of decades. How many players in the history of sport can match that or even do that. A team like Manchester United did but with different players after every 5-7 years. In that regard this is why we featured Sir Alex Ferguson for having been the only real link in those years.

Respects her opponents

Angelique Kerber is no push over and has already beaten Serena before but on this day on the Wimbledon court Serena still found a way to win in straight sets. This is always the story will all Serena Williams opponents, Serena always finds a way, but still respects them. To be the greatest you must always know who you opponents are and have respect them if you are going to be better than they are.

 Determination and Come Backs

Serena is know to have been injured several times and was written off on many occasions, either for her injuries, new opponents, age, or simply that people just wanted her to lose. Seventeen years later she is still the best on the circuit. Before her win in Wimbledon Serena had failed in 3 grand slam attempts to reach the 22 grand slam trophies to tie Steffi Graf how

She wins the Doubles

Now everyone focuses on the fact that Serena has won the singles match but forget that she also plays in the doubles. As a team player with her sister Venus, Serena also won the doubles for Wimbledon to bring her titles to 14 grand slam titles, with only Martina Navratilova and Pam Schriver ahead of her. No other sport has a single person dominating in a single day, tournament and records the way Serena does.  She not only wins in singles but also cements herself as a force in doubles.
