Writing your Vision down and what it really means

Estimated read time 4 min read

There are many dreams that we have as people, and we have to either go against the most difficult of times or sometimes lack support to fulfill what we want. Writing your vision down is not just about writing a sentence as most people might envision, it is more and demands much more attention. Success does not come because a company had an awesome vision, it comes because when they write it down, they do more than just write a sentence.

Where you write it is important

In many times we tend to just scribble down what our vision is and we probably put it in a scrap book or perhaps we write it and frame it somewhere or scribble it on a board where we can see it. Where we write it is important as it must be placed where it meets the following criteria;

  • It must be visible to you daily. This means you must write your vision where you can see it daily, where you can access it in your mind and be a reminder to you
  • It must be clean and important. If you write your vision where it is visible but unclean, you will lose sight of its importance eventually. It will not make sense to you as it will become part of your clutter. You mind works in images if the image of your vision is surrounded by clutter so will the mind vision.
  • It must last more than a year. If you are writing your vision down, do not write were it is going to be deleted, thrown away or overwritten over time. It must be in a place which allows it to last. It must thus not fade or lose color, otherwise you will lose sight of the vision.

The Details Matter as much as the vision theme

This is usually forgotten by people. Writing your vision down is also about having the details on what you are going to do to fulfill the vision. It is of no use wanting to build the biggest company empire when you are not aware of the steps that need to be taken, The most successful visions take note of what needs to be done from day one. Dreaming is just the beginning, there has to be more to the vision.

A few minimum pointers to ensure that your vision makes sense are the following

  • Timeline: It may sound like an over used cliché but putting timelines is critical to the success of any vision. It creates purpose and gives one a real meaning to what life is all about.
  • Resources: What you will need to achieve the vision is important to map it to the timeline that you have.
  • Source of Resources: It is good stating the resources that one needs, but one needs also to identify the source of the resources.
  • Skills: Some work that is needed to achieve a particular vision require different types of skills. If you do not have the skills you may never achieve the vision that you want to achieve.
  • Self -Control: The most important of the the things to have is self control. If you do not have self control you will blown in every direction and miss the opportunities that are required to achieve what is needed.

Your attitude in your pursuit

As much as vision is an objective matter it is even more of a subjective matter. Visions are usually dependent on the dreamer. No matter what kind of vision it is, it is personal. Even if it is a corporate vision or an individual vision, the success of the vision depends on the attitude of the dreamer. No matter who you think is your partner(s), you still need to carry the vision. The vision normally fails when we leave it up to other people believing that they will carry the vision as we would. Every vision is a product of attitude and that attitude entails the following

  • Patience: The willingness to see it through not to wait it out but see it through no matter the speed
  • Passion: This is the energy that drives the vision even when all lights are out.
  • Tact: The ability to know what needs to be done when it needs to be done. “Sometimes you need to be as wise as a serpent.”

The end of it all

There are of course many things to consider in implementing one’s vision, but in the end it is always up to you and how you use your windows of opportunities as they come. Write the vision down and make it plan.
