Guest posts are welcome from other writers in order to share more knowledge on different subjects. It helps to have more than just one perspective to different subjects which can help lift not only the profile of the guest blogger but also of the website that is hosting. However to be a good guest blog author one has to follow a few rules to avoid spamming people or over contributing to a site that has its own vision . Different websites will accept guest blogging which you can find over the internet in different niches.

Choose a site for guest blogging that has control and has good traffic for the type of content that you want to be posting. Don’t waste your blogging effort on a site whose content or visitors would never be interested in your content or what you have to offer.

The Golden Rule of Guest Blogging

As a guest author you must always remember that the site you are writing for as a  guest has taken time to be built and has been built over a specific type of style of writing and certain rules for content. Before you start guest blogging, understand what the style is, how the site links to other sites, how bios are written, how paragraph structuring is done and many other different areas. Remember the site is there because of its current style and current format of publishing, if you become too enthusiastic it affects their presence with Google or Bing search engines.

Be as professional as possible and watch the language. Being a guest blogger is fun and it should stay as such.

The Regular Example Rules for Guest Posts

  1. Quality Posts: Quality posts should be not only informative but leave the audience with something that they gain. Of importance is grammar, structure of posts and the overall flow of the posts. Headings in the posts would have different levels where appropriate.
  2. Word Limit. Posts should be between 500-2000 words. Most posts are preferred to be over 700 words as this guards against non-quality posts and google search will favour longer posts over the short text.
  3. Back links. Google does not take kindly to a site with numerous back links to one site hence back links in an article should be limited to 7 or less. If they are too many back links the hosting site as well as the linked site will lose its index ranking. Linking to the same page in a post results in search penalties so we urge you to link to different pages.
  4. Number of Articles per Week: As the site is a multi-user site we recommend a maximum of 10 articles per week from any author to avoid over contribution by one author. As such as we want to raise the content on the site there is need to strike a balance of contributions.
  5. Citations: Where content has been picked from a different site and included in a post ensure that the appropriate citation is given.

There are other rules of course that you need to maintain which are just as important. If you are going to guest blog then make sure you are prepared to

Respond to Comments: The more comments you respond to the more you keep people engaged and they feel part of you and your writing. So whenever you post be on the look out for the comments from people.

Build your Profile: The reason why you guest blog is to build your profile (Let’s be honest). When building you profile you have to have a landing page where people can find you. Why should be people be interested in you. Are you going to offer a service or is it just a game for you. Know why you are guest blogging and what you want to achieve from it.

Image inclusion

Don’t get the hosting site in trouble by putting up images that you do not own or that have no attribution. Make sure that your pictures are the right size and have the right resolution. Don’t just put up pictures be selective, remember quality is not just about the content but also about the images that you put up.

Once you are published have the courtesy to share your article for the site that you are guest blogging for. This is not just a way of promoting the site but your self-value also goes up. There is more respect for writers who can be found on different sites than for authors in one site. Share your work after all you have links back to you in your article most of the time so its a win win for everyone.
